Brown Gal Trekker / Equity Global Treks (with The Porter Voice Collective) is an award-winning social enterprise that promotes trekking to solo travelers worldwide with a focus on women’s leadership, and workforce equity while making a long-lasting impact on local mountain communities.
The mission of Brown Gal Trekker / Equity Global Treks includes identifying best practices in the trekking tourism industry that will enhance the visibility and relevance of local communities in countries that are targeted by foreign business entities or organizations that demonstrate a lack of commitment toward equitable partnerships in the tourism industry. It identifies local partners in various countries worldwide who are making a conscious effort to create access for women and indigenous communities to become critical players in the tourism industry. It aims to promote sustainable tourism that is driven mainly by the local communities themselves as a way of life and to restore their roles in the ownership, operation, and management of their natural resources, cultural heritage, and history as they should be absent the neo-colonialism that drives the industry today.
Brown Gal Trekker / Equity Global Treks prides itself as a catalyst for systemic changes in the tourism industry in order to dismantle traces of colonialism by way of creating cross-cultural business partnerships that are driven by the notion of inclusion, equity, and sustainability.
