SUMMARY:One Company’s Journey to Plastics and Carbon Neutrality
DESCRIPTION:As the second-largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world\, the U.S. will need to cut emissions nearly in half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2040\, a decade sooner than previously estimated\, in order to limit global warming to 1.5* Celsius. While we expect the incoming Biden-Harris administration to strengthen emissions regulations\, it’s incumbent on businesses to protect their own future by investing in becoming carbon neutral. \nWhile we reduce fossil-fuel use\, we also need to rethink consumer products based on fossil fuels. Plastics survive in the environment for years. A plastic bag can take anywhere from 10-1\,000 years to decompose\, and a plastic bottle can take 450 years. \nWhile we rightly focus attention on emissions reductions\, businesses can also contribute to a healthier ecosystem and their own resilience by reducing or eliminating single-use plastics in their products. \nWe will hear from Dan Bailey\, president of Amavida Coffee Roasters\, about his company’s journey to becoming carbon and plastics neutral. \nIf you have any questions or would like any additional information about this webinar\, please contact Martha Newell-Kinsman (mnewell-kinsman@ceres.org) or Clausell Stokes (cstokes@ceres.org). \nTo better understand the communities we serve at our events\, we invite registrants to voluntarily self-identify their gender and ethnicity. Please note that all of your answers will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used in aggregate.
